Privacy Policy

PunchKit is local-first and does not operate an application server. Recordings, samples, projects, kits, stems, and backups are processed and stored locally unless you explicitly export or share them.
This page is maintained by the PunchKit team to answer common privacy questions about the PunchKit iOS app. It describes the app's current behavior. PunchKit is an independent companion app and is not affiliated with Teenage Engineering.
Data handled by the app
- User-selected or recorded audio
- EP project, pad, sample, and backup data transferred over USB MIDI/SysEx
- Local Kit Builder drafts and imported kit audio
- Appearance and device-colorway preferences
- Local free-tier counters and cached founding-user entitlement
- A small rotating local history of redacted diagnostics
- Files you explicitly export to device storage, Files, iCloud, mail, or another destination you pick
Data collection
PunchKit has no account system, advertising SDK, analytics SDK, third-party crash-reporting SDK, or tracking domains. PunchKit does not automatically upload recordings, EP data, diagnostic reports, issue descriptions, or identifiers to a PunchKit service.
App Store purchases
PunchKit Pro is purchased through Apple StoreKit. Apple processes payment and provides signed transaction status to the app. PunchKit does not receive payment-card details. Local entitlement and free-tier state are stored on the device. Apple's own privacy terms apply to App Store transactions.
Device diagnostics and issue reports
PunchKit keeps a small rotating local diagnostic history for device and operation failures. It may contain timestamps, an ephemeral session identifier, app and iOS versions, operation categories and statuses, and sanitized errors. It does not contain recorded audio, sample contents, or project contents. File paths and common audio filenames are redacted. Diagnostic storage is excluded from backups and limited to three files of approximately 1 MB each.
Nothing is sent automatically. "Report an Issue" lets you write a description and optionally attach a redacted report. The system mail composer or share sheet then lets you review, change, cancel, or choose a destination. Anything you send is processed under the selected provider's privacy terms.
Optional stem model download
Stem separation uses a machine-learning model that you explicitly download from the project's public GitHub release. The request exposes ordinary network information such as your IP address to the download host / CDN. No recording, EP data, or stable PunchKit identifier is included in the model request. The model archive is checksum-verified and stored locally. After installation, separation runs offline on your device. The model can be removed from PunchKit at any time.
Permissions we request
- Microphone / audio input — iOS exposes built-in and connected USB audio inputs through the recording-permission system, so this permission is required to capture audio from either source. Audio is written to local files you control.
- Files access — used only for imports and exports you initiate to locations you pick.
- USB MIDI / SysEx — used for direct communication with connected EP-133 K.O. II, EP-1320, and EP-40 devices.
Children
PunchKit is a music production tool and does not knowingly collect any data from anyone, including children under 13.
Your rights
Because PunchKit does not operate a server that stores your personal data, there is nothing for us to export or delete on your behalf. To remove your content, delete the app or remove the relevant files from your device or chosen storage location.
Changes to this policy
If the app's behavior ever changes — for example, if an optional cloud feature is added — this page will be updated and the "Last updated" date above will change.
